Health Myth #3 Germs Cause Disease

Time to tackle health myth #3: Germs cause disease.

Think about this…right now, wherever you are, you are surrounded by millions of germs.  It’s a given, there is no escape from germs!  So why aren’t you sick 100% of the time?  After all, you’re exposed to germs 24/7!

Think back to grade school.  Do you remember the classmate that was always sick?  I bet you’re thinking of him or her right now!  You know, the one with snot all over his/her  face, sneezing, coughing, lethargic.  I know you know who I’m talking about!  Why is it that only one, or a handful of kids, from a class get sick when the entire class is exposed to all the same germs?

People say all the time, “I’m concerned about hanging out in certain environments because I don’t want to catch the flu!”

In reality, germs do not cause disease!  If the germ theory of disease were true, there would be nobody alive to believe it!

So if ten of us were all in the same room with the same germs.  Who would come in contact with the germs?  Everybody, all ten of us.  But maybe only 4 of us get a cough, cold, flu, or fever.  The rest of us are just fine.  How does that happen?  Well, your nervous system controls every single part of your body, including your immune system.  So the person who has a weakened nervous system, also has a weakened immune system.  Their bodies cannot adapt properly to the environment leading to sickness and dis-ease.

So it’s not the seed, it’s the soil.  In other words, a perfectly good seed will not grow if the soil isn’t right.  Just the same, germs will not cause sickness if the environment within the body is not right (meaning you have a strong nervous/immune system to fight the bug off).

What most drugs and medications do is treat the symptom so you “feel” better, but you’re actually still sick!  What Chiropractors do is work on building the body’s health by strengthening the nervous system which will strengthen the immune system and prevent the sickness in the first place!

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Health Myth #2

Continuing on with health myth #2:

HEALTH / DISEASE IS AN EVENT.

There are a lot of people who believe that health or disease is an event.  This again is false!  Building health or developing disease is a process, not an event.  Every decision you make is either leading you towards health and wellness or towards sickness and disease.  It’s the choice between the apple or the donut, to workout out or sit on the couch, to be calm or stressed out.

Think about it, anything you do is a process.  If you just picked up a golf club for the first time, chances are you’re not going to be great right from the start.  If you practice regularly, you’ll begin to improve!

If you work out once, you’re not going to be in great shape overnight.

If you start investing money into a savings account, it takes time to build.

Breaking your arm is an event, but the healing that happens afterwards is a beautiful process!

Just like these examples, disease is a process.  Heart disease doesn’t happen overnight.  Cancer doesn’t happen overnight.  I hear people say all the time, “Yeah, John got heart disease.”  Like it’s bug floating around.  John didn’t get heart disease, he earned disease from years of poor choices.  His first symptom will probably be a heart attack which has a 60% chance of killing him.  These diseases are processes that have been manifesting themselves for months or more likely years.

Healing is also a process.  It’s amazing to hear people say how frustrated they are because they don’t “feel” any better after a week when their health issue has been present for 30 years!  People in our society want the immediate results, which is why most of them look for the quick cure.  The pain reliever that makes them “feel” better.

If you do have a symptom, sickness, or disease you have 2 options:

1)  Medicate – you will most likely “feel” better, but you are masking symptoms and have done nothing to turn the direction of your health around and your health will deteriorate at an even faster pace even though the symptoms are gone.

2)  Build Health - you can work to turn the direction of your health around by changing unhealthy habits and building a healthy nervous system which will allow your body to heal itself.

Which one makes more sense to you?

Health Myth #1

Posted: May 10, 2011
By: Dr Chaz Ebert

Hi gang!  I hope you all are doing great!

In the next few posts I want to tackle a few of the biggest health myths that I come across constantly.  The first myth is:

IF I FEEL GOOD, I’M HEALTHY!

I ask people all the time, “How’s your health?”  To which they respond, “Good!”  My next question is usually, “How do you know?”  They say, “Because I feel good!”

And this is how the conversation goes the majority of the time.

Here’s the truth…you can’t judge your health by how you’re feeling!  Think about it.  We’ve all known people who felt great, and dropped dead of a heart attack or went in for a routine check-up, and were diagnosed with cancer.  Remember, they felt fine!  On the other end of the spectrum, what if you went out for dinner and got served some bad (contaminated) food.  You get home and you feel awful.  Stomach cramps, fever, vomiting, you name it.  Would you say your healthy or sick?  Most people think that is sickness because they “feel” bad.  Nothing could be further from the truth!  Your body is expressing health!  Your body is so amazingly smart that it knows something “bad” got in and it is going to do whatever it takes to kill off the bacteria and rid the body of the toxins.  Hence the fever and vomiting.

Now, what most people do is run out to the drug store to get Pepto Bismal, aspirin, and other medications to stop this natural process.  So your body is trying to help you, and you just created interference in the process of masking the symptoms.  Now all those toxins and bacteria that your body was trying to get rid of naturally, will remain and could lead to further sickness, dis-ease, and even possibly death (if severe enough).

Again, your body is so amazingly smart!  You have more Innate wisdom in the tip of your pinky finger than all the doctors on this planet combined!   Nature needs no help just no interference!

In conclusion, symptoms can be very misleading.  That’s why symptoms aren’t something principled Chiropractors track very carefully.  It’s not how you’re “feeling” that matters.  It’s how you’re “healing” that matters!  All healing begins with a healthy nervous system!

Hit The RESET Button!

When you’re computer just isn’t acting quite right, what do you do?  Yep….you hit the RESET button!  Sure enough, you’re computer reboots and works great!  Pretty convenient, huh?

What if you could do the exact same thing with your own body?  After a week full of physical, chemical, and emotional stress, what if there was a way to hit the RESET button for your body?  Let’s face it, to some degree we ALL suffer from physical, chemical, and emotional stress on a daily basis which leads to breakdown and improper function in the body.

Good news!  A Chiropractic adjustment is like hitting the RESET button.  Especially at the top bone in your spine called the atlas.  The atlas is located at the level of your brainstem (where your brain becomes your spinal cord).  This is like “Houston Control” for your entire body.  So a specific adjustment to the atlas is just like hitting the RESET button.  You’re body now has the best chance to heal, repair, and function for hours and even days!  How cool is that?

That’s why the healthiest families on the planet receive regular Chiropractic care….not just for neck or back pain, but rather to be at their very best!

So the question is….do you want to be optimally healthy or just not sick?  There is a huge difference!

Dr. Chaz
